August 22, Day 70. Another early start as Richard and I got on the water from Laytown and paddled up the coast. We got there right at low tide as to catch the flood pushing us north, and because the beach was so shallow, it was nearly a 7-10 minute walk down the beach to the very water just to get on. Fun though, I don’t mind the long walks usually, my trolley means I’m not doing any silly dragging of my boat, it’s such a handy thing. Wouldn’t do this trip without it. Right as we got on, the tide started coming in which meant decent sized breakers started rolling in and we got to paddle and break through them as we went out. The last couple were on the bigger side and once we got past them all, we cheered out to eachother - such a fun start to the day.
Easy enough paddle, bit of windy chop but coming from the west so not much in terms of head winds. We stopped for lunch at Clogher head and I remembered the only other time I had been there with Sue, almost two years ago when I first started planning little bits for this trip and I was trying out her Pilgrim Explorer, wondering what boat I would take on the trip. Reminded me yet again of all the people here that have helped me get here. Carried along to Dunany point where the Sheikh lives. I rang the bell on the fancy gate to ask if I could put my boat somewhere in their gated estate and one of the daughters answered. Very nice girl. We walked and chatted while she showed me the nice barn where I could keep it before she went riding, they have so many gorgeous horses there and before long I was off. She is half Irish and they spend some of the year here and some of it in Dubai. We then got fish and chips and went back to the house for a shower and a rest. Such a fun day and feels so good to be back in my groove.
Day 71 a rest day because of the weather, so I didnt set an alarm, and my body woke up at 11:30. So nice. Spent a fair bit of the day figuring out this silly blog because I ran out of storage and you can only have more storage on the desktop version and not the app. So I uploaded my photos to google drive and did it that way. Just annoying. The three of us had a nice evening, they are so genuine and fun. The both of them are so fun. We had a blast, I got some good laughs in there, easy dude to hang out with and take the piss out of eachother. We watched Young Offenders in the evenings, its a funy show based in Cork. Amazing Irish humor.
