July 23, Day 40. Some days I really feel like I’ve been doing this for a long time, but in a good way. It was really nice to have a break but I was nearly in more pain with my leg today than I was before. Got my stuff in the boat and set off from Derrynane with my newly configured seat with more foam and a little leveling of it. It was so uncomfortable unfortunately and I had a bit of a breakdown when I finally got to the next out after a small crossing. Everything just built up and I had a good cry on the beach. Why is this still so uncomfortable, how can I paddle for another month and a half like this?
Not my best. Fiddled with the seat again and then set off for just before Puffin island. Leg not as bad on this stretch. I’m now at the pier staring at Skellig Michael, what a sweet little spot. Saw there was a restaurant a mile or so away and I deserved a big burger so I made the half an hour walk there but they had stopped serving food when I got there. Not a good way to end the day. At least I got water and got a good walk in for my leg. Saw baby cows, heard the Kerry accent that sounds like another language and saw the fog and mist rolling generously over the tall hills. Quite a beautiful place. And seeing skellig Michael was illuminated in a beautiful orange glow.
